Pet Surgeries We Perform

Our veterinarians perform a range of soft tissue procedures and any orthopedics are performed by a traveling veterinarian with advanced surgical training who works exclusively with our hospital. Procedures include:

Soft Tissue

  • Spay/neuter
  • Tumor or mass removal
  • Foreign body removal
  • Splenectomies
  • C-sections
  • Other abdominal surgeries
  • And more

Orthopedic

  • TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) for cranial cruciate ligament repair
  • Fracture repair
  • Patella luxation correction
  • And more

Safety at Every Step

Your pet is a member of the family, and we treat them as such. We start our safety measures before surgery with pre-anesthetic blood work and an exam to determine their health and establish an appropriate anesthetic protocol. Once we clear them for surgery, your pet receives:

  • An IV catheter providing fluids that keep them hydrated and regulate their blood pressure
  • Pain medication during and after surgery to minimize their discomfort
  • A specific technician to watch over them from induction to recovery
  • Extensive monitoring with advanced equipment that measures their vitals

A New Level of Surgical Expertise in Ukiah

Mendocino Animal Hospital is proud to partner with Dr. Jesse Sutton, founder of Roam Veterinary Surgery, to bring advanced surgical services directly to our hospital.

This collaboration gives local pet owners access to board-certified surgical care that previously required a 60–90 minute drive south. Now, many advanced procedures can be performed right here in Ukiah, close to home and with the veterinary team you already trust.

What Board Certification Means for Your Pet

Board certification represents the highest level of surgical training in veterinary medicine. A board-certified veterinary surgeon completes:

  • Veterinary school
  • A one-year surgical internship
  • A multi-year surgical residency with intensive case experience
  • Rigorous specialty examinations

This advanced training allows Dr. Sutton to manage complex orthopedic and soft tissue cases with a high level of precision and clinical judgment. For pets needing more advanced surgical care, this expertise adds an important layer of confidence and capability.

Pet Endoscopy: An Alternative to Surgery

A recent addition to our hospital is our endoscope, a small rigid or flexible tube (we have both) with a tiny camera on the end and a mechanical “hand” that can grab foreign objects or take biopsy samples. An endoscope can be inserted into a body cavity such as the nose, mouth, or rectum or through small incisions. Endoscopy is a preferable alternative to surgery in some cases because it is minimally invasive and provides pets a less painful experience. However, we can only use it successfully for certain conditions. These include:

  • Foreign body removal
  • Exploratory procedures
